What if I Don't Have a Database?

By Frank Klesitz in Frank's Diary on Sep 11, 2024

A prospective client asked me this question last week.

This gentleman has been in the mortgage industry for 10 years without a CRM.

He purchased leads, worked them, and threw them away.

He knows he needs to change his strategy with the Fed's rate drop (it's why we spoke), but I can understand that hiring us without any emails on file is difficult.

So, if you, too, "don't have a database," here's what to do...

I asked him to download the "Export Contacts by Covve" application on his phone.

This is a quick way to export all your contacts to a spreadsheet.

He had 2,299 people in his address book!

unnamed (1)-1

Of those, we found 432 emails ready to go.

Boom - instant sphere list. He scrolled through the email addresses and recognized many as past mortgage clients, leads he's working, or people who could refer him.

We scrubbed them all through Neverbounce and loaded them into an email marketing program to get a reconnect email with an invitation to unsubscribe if they don't want his upcoming real estate and mortgage video updates on our marketing plan.

If anyone who has been in business for a while tells you, "I don't have a database" in a broad industry like mortgage, real estate, or business training, that's simply not true.

Just start with the contacts in your cell phone. The same strategy also works for your Google Contacts. Let alone if you have a CRM - export everyone in there as well.

This is first step we take with every client because it's the first step to get any anyone in professional services up to speed to attract (not chase) a clientelle - reconnect with everyone you know and staying in better touch by publishing helpful insights.

Here's an example.
